Valentine’s Day, Oh Valentine’s Day

Love, in case you were wondering, is mutually shared trust. It’s about knowing and appreciating the little things about a person. It’s about understanding that they’re freaking weirdos, and going out in public with them anyways. It’s about enjoying those quirks, and being okay displaying the ones that you have too. It’s about appreciating who they are, they’re role in your life, your role in theirs, and spending every opportunity you can getting to know them better.

It’s about being patient, kind…not envious, not boastful or haughty towards the other person. It doesn’t dishonor them, isn’t selfish, isn’t easily angered, and doesn’t keep track of the score with plans to get even. It doesn’t enjoy evil, but enjoys the truth. It always protects, trusts, hopes, and perseveres. It never fails.

Love is a beautiful thing…it lifts the other person off the ground and walks together side by side with them. It’s waiting for them to get home just so you can talk to them about your day. It’s about sharing little moments with them, and big ones too. It doesn’t have to be between a significant other, it can be between friends and family too.

It’s not about candy, chocolate, flowers, and dates (although those are nice too). I don’t need a particular day to show people I love them, because I should be doing it every day anyways. I think these are important things to keep in mind at a time when the world is celebrating materialistically something that isn’t really very tangible at all. Just keep in mind what love really is, and have a wonderful Valentine’s Day.
